MedMira's Multiplo TP/HIV Rapid Test. One Test, More Answers.

A study completed by the Indian Red Cross Blood Society showed that MedMira's Multiplo TP/HIV Rapid Test is your immediate quality answer.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a blood-borne virus that poses a significant threat to global health, especially given that current therapies for HIV infection can only limit disease progression, and infected individuals are often asymptomatic and thus can transmit the virus unknowingly to others, for example vertical transmission from mother to child during pregnancy.

An estimated 430,000 children were newly infected with HIV in 2008, over 90% of them through mother-to-child transmission (MTCT). Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum (TP). Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of syphilis is a major cause of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Syphilis and HIV share the common routes of transmission, thus the majority of individuals considered at risk of infection with one of the diseases are consequently at risk with the other one.

MedMira’s Multiplo Rapid TP/HIV Antibody Test (Multiplo TP/HIV) is a multiplex device for the simultaneous detection of antibodies to TP and HIV within minutes with one drop of blood, serum or plasma specimens. Rapid tests can be of immense benefit in detection of HIV and syphilis infections. Rapid tests bring the benefits of testing into POC settings, providing wider access to testing, treatment and follow-up that can be achieved solely using standard laboratory based tests. This would in particularly be highly beneficial in resource limited settings, in regions with high disease prevalence and for testing pregnant women in prenatal care clinics.

Conclusion:

The Multiplo TP/ HIV assay exhibited no discordant results for HIV testing thereby having 100% sensitivity and specificity. For specimens co-infected with TP and HIV, the results were 100% accurate.
